Passwords, and the machine that remembers them for you

Every data breach in the news asks us the same rude question. How many of your passwords are the name of a grandchild followed by 123. Mine were, most of them, until the spring I spent two hours fixing it, and the fix was easier than the dread of the fix. Here is the plan I used. Your phone and computer already include a password keeper, iCloud Keychain on Apple products, the Google one on Android, and it is free and locked by your face or fingerprint. Turn it on in settings, search for the word autofill and the switch is right there. From then on, when you make a new account somewhere, the device offers to invent a long ugly password, twelve characters of gibberish, and remembers it so you never type it again. You keep remembering exactly one thing, the passcode into your own phone, which you already know. Where does the AI come in. Two places. First, the chat programs will walk you through this setup step by step, patiently, at your speed, and will answer the seventeen anxious questions that come up, is this safe, what if I lose my phone, why trust Apple, better than any manual. Second, the smarter scam detection. Paste a suspicious email into a chat program and ask, is this phishing, what gives it away, and it will point at the mismatched sender address and the fake urgency like a tutor. Nine out of ten scam emails fall to that one move. Two hours, one spring, and the grandchild passwords retired forever. It was the least glamorous and most worth it afternoon of my year with these machines.

AI, in plain English three small answers, no jargon

AI that checks the shelf

The best AI answers now come from systems that search real sources before writing. It is the difference between answering from memory and actually walking to the shelf.

AI that sees, hears, and reads

Multimodal AI works across photos, charts, audio, and text in one conversation. Show it your open fridge and ask what to cook; that is roughly today's level.

AI's energy bill

Large AI systems use real electricity and water, and companies are racing to shrink that footprint. Everyday queries are light; the honest answer is that the total is growing and being worked on.

The North Castle Public Library serves the town of North Castle from two buildings: the Armonk branch at 19 Whippoorwill Road East, which shares its campus with the Whippoorwill Theater, and the North White Plains branch on Clove Road. Its founders created what was originally the North Castle Free Public Library in the early 1960s, with a 1963 groundbreaking for the first addition to the Armonk building. The library is known for its Armonk Outdoor Art Show, a major annual fundraiser running since 1961.

None, and here is the model: your first two classes cost you nothing, we collect attendance and feedback, and the next library books us because yours proved it works. Repeat classes after that are a modest honorarium sized to your budget.

What do we need to provide?

A room, chairs, and wifi. We bring the projector, adapters, a backup hotspot, printed handouts — every attendee leaves with a printed AI cheat sheet.
