Some of these are real now, and a growing number were assembled by machines, and the numbers stopped mattering the day the fakes became free to make. What actually helps, at our age, is not becoming a forensics expert. Nobody wins that race, including the young. What helps is procedure, four moves, done in order. Slow down. The fake depends on your outrage arriving before your thinking, so the single most protective habit in the modern world is a ten minute delay between feeling furious and sharing anything. Check the source account. Was it created last month, does it have six followers and a flag avatar, is this its only post. Find the original. Search a few words from the clip and see whether a news organization you have actually heard of has touched it, because the real version of anything important gets covered within hours by somebody with editors. And ask the machine. Paste the link or describe the clip to a chat program and ask what is known about this video's origin. It will not catch everything, and it sometimes lacks the news of the last day, but it catches a surprising amount, and it teaches you the tells while it checks. The fury is the product. Ten minutes and a search breaks the business model, every time.

A hallucination is the AI filling a gap with fluent invention. It is not lying; it is predicting plausible words. The defense is asking for sources, then actually checking them.
Treat AI chats like a postcard, not a diary: fine for recipes and resumes, wrong for passwords or confidential matters. Check an app's settings before sharing anything sensitive.
A chatbot answers; an agent acts, planning steps and using tools before reporting back. Agents are the newer, clunkier technology: powerful when they work, supervised when it matters.
