Every October, the kitchen table disappears under the Medicare materials, and every November, I used to make a decision by exhaustion rather than analysis. The machine has changed this particular season of life more than any other, and I say that having tested it through two enrollments now. The routine. Photograph or paste in the parts of the plans you are comparing, this year's coverage page and the candidate plan's, and ask the three questions that actually decide it. Given my specific medications, list attached, what would I have paid under each plan last year, an approximation, but a structured one. What changed between last year's version of this plan and this year's, because they never volunteer that. And what would make the other plan better for me, so you learn what you are actually giving up. The math comes back as a table with its assumptions stated, which you verify against your pharmacy receipts from the shoebox, and the machine states its limits honestly, prices move, formularies change mid year, confirm with the plan's own people before signing. What it does not do is replace the SHIP counselor, the free Medicare counseling every state runs, and the counselor I saw in 2024 caught a detail the machine and I both missed. The winning combination is the machine first, to arrive knowing everything, the counselor second, to check the decision, and the folding table retired to the garage. October stopped being the month I dread. It is now the month I outsource to a tireless clerk and one appointment.
