Writing the hardest letter you will ever write
Nobody warns you about the amount of writing that comes with the end of life. There is the eulogy, if you are the one standing up. The obituary, due to the newspaper on the worst day of your year. The thank you notes after the funeral, when your handwriting is shot and your heart is lower than the basement. I have done all three in the last six years, twice, and I will not pretend the machine makes them easy. What it does is make them possible. For the obituary, you give it the facts, the dates, the towns, the jobs, the survivors, the memberships, the two things she was known for, and it organizes them into the shape the paper expects, and that scaffold of facts becomes something you can hang a life on. For the eulogy, you talk at it. Literally, in the voice mode, for ten minutes, saying whatever comes, the story about the Buick, the way she cheated at gin rummy, the Christmas of the frozen pipes. Then you ask it to find the three threads and build a short speech around them, keeping your words wherever they were already right. It will not invent a eulogy worth giving. It will find the one hiding in what you already said, which is a different and more honest service. And for the thank you notes, it does what it always does, it starts the sentence so you do not have to, fifty times. Grief does not need to also be writer's block. The words were yours all along. The machine just holds the flashlight while you find them.

None, and here is the model: your first two classes cost you nothing, we collect attendance and feedback, and the next library books us because yours proved it works. Repeat classes after that are a modest honorarium sized to your budget.
