Same job assumptions, line by line, materials named, warranty terms, payment schedule, and anything in the fine print one bid includes that the others slide past. The table it built took me twenty minutes to verify by hand and exposed the real difference. The cheap bid was using a lighter shingle and a warranty that transferred to nobody if we sold, and the expensive bid included a ventilation fix the middle bid never mentioned at all. None of the roofers were crooked. The paperwork was just written to be read by roofers. But walking into the negotiation with the documents already sorted, and knowing where the bodies are buried in the fine print, that is worth the whole class right there.

The Pine Plains Free Library began as the Union Library of Pine Plains, incorporated February 17, 1798 — making it one of New York's oldest libraries, with its first meetings held in Ebenezer Baldwin's tavern, the historic Stissing House. It became the tax-supported Pine Plains Free Library in 1874 and received its absolute charter in 1960. After decades in private homes and storefronts, the library today shares the Pine Plains Free Library and Community Center on South Main Street, where it leases the first floor from the town.
