There is one skill that separates people who find these programs magical from people who find them useless, and it is not typing speed or youth. It is briefing. The machine cannot read the room, so you have to write the room. Think of it as instructing a capable new assistant who has never met you. You would not hand such a person a note reading, letter to dentist. You would say what the letter is for, what happened, what you want to happen next, and how formal to be. Same here. Compare two requests. Write an email about an appointment versus, you are helping me, a 68 year old who just got a new crown. Write a short, polite email to Dr. Reyes' office asking whether the sensitivity I feel two weeks later is normal, and what they suggest. The second one gets a useful answer every time. A recipe helps too. Role, who the machine should be. Context, the two sentences of truth it needs. Task, the thing you want. Format, the shape of the reply, short list, 150 words, table. The whole pattern fits on an index card, and honestly, that card is most of what our ninety minute class teaches. The last piece is the follow up. Wrong temperature is not a failure, it is a conversation. Too long. Simpler. Now do it as a checklist. The machine never minds, and unlike your family, it will redo the same sentence four times without sighing.
