You describe what you want in words, and it hands you the formula and tells you exactly where to type it. I said, I have a list of medical bills in one column and dates in another, I want a total per month, and it produced the formula, explained each part like I was new, which I was, and told me which cell to paste it in. When it did not work, I pasted the error message back and said fix this, and it did. That is the whole relationship. You describe, it writes, you check the totals against your adding machine twice, because you are old enough to trust nothing electronic on the first pass. Within a season I had a household budget that updates itself, a charitable giving record for tax season, and a packing list for the move organized by room. Was I ever good at this? No. Am I now the person the neighbors ask? Somehow, yes. The barrier was never the math, the math was always the easy part. The barrier was the foreign language of it, and the machine is the best translator that has ever existed. Every AI you can use today is narrow: excellent at one job, clueless outside it. A general AI matching human flexibility across tasks does not exist yet, whatever the headlines imply.
An LLM is a word-prediction engine: given your sentence, it predicts a helpful continuation one piece at a time. That is why it writes fluently and still makes factual slips.

The Boardman Road Branch Library at 141 Boardman Road is the Poughkeepsie Public Library District's second location, alongside the historic Adriance Memorial Library downtown. The branch building was refurbished over roughly a year and a half in a $7.2 million project and reopened April 20, 2015. It holds the Friends' book store and hosts much of the district's programming.
