If you carry an iPhone, an update is coming this fall that fixes the most mocked assistant in computing. Siri has spent fourteen years misunderstanding timers. The rebuilt version, called Siri AI, is already in early testing and arrives for everyone as a free update with iOS 27 this fall, and Apple built it with help from Google, of all partners. What you get, in practice, is an assistant that finally knows your own life. Ask what you and your daughter did for her birthday last year and it can pull together the calendar entry, the messages, and the photos into an actual answer. Ask it to find the confirmation code sitting in some email and it appears. The privacy arrangement is the part I would tell my friends about. The sensitive work happens on the phone itself, and when a question does need to go up to Apple's servers, it goes with protections Apple has published and invited outsiders to inspect, which is a meaningful difference from the norm in this industry. There are catches, as always. It needs a recent iPhone, the 15 Pro or anything newer, and the smartest bits arrive in English first. My counsel is patience. You do not need to hunt it down. When the update lands, your phone will offer it, and the sensible move for most of us is to wait a month or two past the first day, let the early birds find the bugs, then take the update with your coffee one morning. The assistant you ignored for a decade is about to become worth talking to.
