How to put ChatGPT on your phone, in plain steps
You do not need to be technical for this. It takes about four minutes and costs nothing. On an iPhone, open the App Store, tap the search glass at the bottom right, type ChatGPT, and look for the black icon with a white knot shape made by OpenAI. Tap Get, then Install, and wait. On an Android phone it is the same routine in the Play Store. When it opens, it will offer a sign up. You can use your email address and make up a password, or tap the option to continue with Google or Apple, which is one less password to remember. The free version asks for no credit card, and as of August 2026 it is genuinely unlimited for typed conversations, running a fast model called Luna. That matters, because for two years the free version cut you off after a handful of questions. Those days are over. Once you are in, type anything in the box at the bottom. Start silly. Ask it for a dinner idea using what is in your refrigerator, or to explain something in the news. There is no wrong first question, and you cannot break it. The one habit worth forming early is the follow up. If the answer is not right for you, say so. Too long. Simpler words. More examples. It will try again without complaint, which is more than most of us can say.

What AI actually is
AI is software that learns patterns from huge numbers of examples instead of following hand-written rules. Show it enough photos of cats and it starts recognizing cats; no one ever defined a cat for it.
Generative vs. everyday AI
Most AI quietly sorts and predicts: spam filters, map routes, photo sorting. Generative AI is the newer kind that creates text, images, music, and code. ChatGPT is generative; your spam folder is not.
Narrow vs. general AI
Every AI you can use today is narrow: excellent at one job, clueless outside it. A general AI matching human flexibility across tasks does not exist yet, whatever the headlines imply.
Special emphasis is placed on supplying adults with current reading materials; on providing free access to computers and the internet, on reference services to students (at all academic levels) and other information seekers; and on making our facility available for individuals, organizations and agencies to do community work. The library was founded in 1872 by General Joseph Howland, and has the special features of the interior “Common Clay” relief sculpture mural, a community art project conceived by Mika Seeger; a colorful Main Street mural painted by Rick Price; and a South Cedar Street literary mural in memory of local artist, Audrey Chibbaro, by Beacon High School art students.
