The furnace made a sound in November, a buzz, then a click, then nothing, and I described the sequence to the program the way you would to a handy nephew, including the age of the unit and the fact that it worked after I thumped the panel. It walked me through the likely suspects, told me which one the thumping implicated, and said plainly, this one is a do not touch, here is why, call the professional, and here is what the service call should cost so you know the honest range. The man came, found exactly the implicated part, and charged inside the stated range, and knowing the range changed how the conversation at the door went. Same with the fence line question, where the deed language met the neighbor's memory, and the program read the deed, explained the metes and bounds in English, and told me which kind of survey resolves it and what that costs, before lawyers were mentioned by anyone. It is not a repairman and not a lawyer, and it says so if you ask it directly, which I respect. What it is, is the knowledgeable voice before the paid voices arrive, so you walk into every appointment knowing the vocabulary, the honest price, and the right question. Half of getting old gracefully, around a house, is refusing to be baffled. The machine is the end of baffled.
